Do I pay per window or per house?
Quotes are itemised per window so you can add or drop rooms, but the total for ordering everything together is lower than the sum of separate visits.
Types and choices
Which blind is best for a kitchen or bathroom?
PVC roller blinds and aluminium or faux wood Venetians. They wipe clean and tolerate steam. Real timber and unlined fabric belong in dry rooms.
What is the difference between blackout and dim-out?
Blackout fabric stops light through the panel; dim-out only softens it. For a genuinely dark room you also need side channels or an oversized exact-fit mount to close the edge gaps.
Wooden or faux wood?
Real timber for period rooms and bays where the grain matters. Faux wood where moisture rules out timber, or where you want the look at a lower price.
Can I get motorised blinds?
Yes, with rechargeable battery motors that need no wiring. Expect £70 to £180 a window depending on the blind. They are most worthwhile on tall stairwell windows and blinds behind furniture.
Measuring and fitting
Who measures the windows?
The fitter, on site. Made-to-measure blinds are manufactured to the survey figures, so the measuring risk sits with the trade rather than with you.
How long does fitting take?
A typical house of eight to ten blinds is a single visit of two to four hours. Bays and stairwell windows take longer because of alignment and access.
Recess fit or exact fit?
Recess fit sits inside the opening and looks neatest. Exact fit mounts above the opening and overlaps it, which suits shallow recesses, awkward handles and any room you want dark.
Can you fit blinds to tilt-and-turn or conservatory windows?
Yes, usually with perfect-fit frames that clip into the uPVC beading. No drilling, no side gaps, and the blind moves with the opening sash.
Safety, lead times and commercial
Are the blinds child safe?
All corded and chained blinds supplied in the UK must meet BS EN 13120, which means breakaway connectors, tensioners or cleats fitted and fixed at installation. Cordless and motorised blinds remove the hazard entirely and are the sensible choice in a child's room.
How long is the wait?
Typically a fortnight to three weeks from order for mainstream ranges. Specialist fabrics and motorised blinds take longer. Ask for the lead time in writing if a date matters.
Do you fit blinds in offices and shops?
Yes: offices, salons, surgeries, schools, care homes and retail units, quoted per job, with fire-retardant contract fabrics and out-of-hours fitting available.
What if a blind develops a fault later?
Made-to-measure blinds carry a manufacturer's guarantee, usually one to three years depending on the range, and most faults are a replaceable component rather than a new blind. Get the guarantee period written on the quote.
