Timber, and why people pay for it
Real wood slats have a depth of grain and a weight of movement that no printed PVC copy quite reproduces. In a Victorian front room in Linthorpe or a 1930s bay in Fairfield, a 50mm stained basswood blind reads as part of the architecture rather than as window dressing. That is the argument for the extra money, and for the right room it is a good one.

Slat sizes and finishes
25mm slats suit small windows and keep a delicate look. 35mm is the middle ground and the most ordered. 50mm gives the widest view through when open and the most substantial appearance closed, and is the usual pick for bays and large front windows. Finishes run from natural and light oak stains through walnut and dark espresso to painted whites and greys. Decorative tapes, cloth ladders in a contrasting colour that hide the cord holes, are a period detail worth considering on 50mm slats.

Weight, and what it means for fitting
Wooden blinds are the heaviest in the range. On a wide window that means a stronger headrail, more brackets and, in a plasterboard reveal, fixings that reach something solid. It also means that anything over about 2.4m wide is usually better split into two blinds: a single very wide timber blind is hard to raise, sags at the ladder tapes and puts real load on the brackets. A proper survey will tell you this before manufacture, not after.
Bay windows
Bays are where wooden blinds earn their reputation. Each face is measured individually, the headrails are cut so the corners meet cleanly, and the slats are aligned so the closed blind reads as one continuous line around the bay. It takes longer to measure and longer to fit than any other blind on this site, and the result is the difference between a bay that looks finished and one that looks approximated.
Caring for timber slats
Dust with a soft cloth or a vacuum brush along the closed slats, and avoid water: wet cleaning raises the grain and can lift a stain. Direct sun will lighten a dark stain over years, most visibly on a south-facing bay, so a mid-tone finish ages more gracefully than a very dark one in a bright room.
